The Butler Dry Cleaners will stay open!
Following last minute discussions with the current Landlord, and David Hudson from Master Dry Cleaners, an agreement has been reached that will allow The Butler Dry Cleaners to continue trading.
Current owner Mark Tonkin will partner with David Hudson from Master Dry Cleaners to continue to operate the business whilst an agreement in finalised.
David is a 3rd generation Dry Cleaners, and has known Mark in the industry for over 15 years, with Mark’s father Brian being close friends with David’s father Jim, and uncle Peter, who have both worked in the dry cleaning industry for over 40 years. the Hudson’s family has owned and operated dry cleaning stores throughout Melbourne for over 70 years, after starting from Werribee in 1948. Currently the Master Dry Cleaners group consists of 7 stores; Werribee, Seddon, Albert Park, South Kingsville, Sunbury and Malvern.
Mark and David are extremely excited to be working together, and keeping The Butler Dry Cleaners name alive.
I have been extremely humbled by the feedback I have received from my amazing customers. It was an extremely difficult decision to make to close the doors after 18 years in business. The last minute reprieve we have been given by David and the landlord is an amazing effort and we will work hard to ensure we continue to support out customers and the community we are a part of.

At this stage there will be as little changes as possible to the way the business operates currently, however some changes will need to take effect:
Opening Hours
Monday – Friday: 7.30am – 5.300pm
Saturday: 8.00am – 3.00pm
Sunday: Closed
- Closing Sunday effective immediate
- Same Day service cut off 9.30am
- No Same Day service available on Saturdays
We will continue to offer the same great services to all customers, and some added services that The Butler may not have previously provided, including:
- Wash ,Dry & Fold laundry service – $6.00/kg
- Bedding and Linen Laundry / Dry Cleaning
- Doona, Blanket and Bed Spread cleaning
- Curtain and Drape Cleaning, with onsite take down & re hanging service
